The rights of way that make up the Ceredigion Coast Path are mainly public footpaths so can be used on foot only.  

There are a limited number of other paths in the coastal area that can be used by horseriders and cyclists (bridleways, restricted byways and byways) – these routes are shown on Ordnance Survey maps.  There are also some easy-going sections of the Path that can be enjoyed by people with limited mobility, wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Always make sure you are suitably equipped both for your walk and for changing weather conditions.  For your own safety, keep to the Coast Path and do not walk to the cliff edge.

Safety on the Coast Path

Weather

The prevailing westerly wind brings changeable weather to the Cardigan Bay coast. Be prepared for bad weather and take extra care in windy conditions. Wear or carry warm and / or waterproof clothes on long walks.  For further information or a five-day weather forecast go to:

Cliffs

The Ceredigion Coast Path has a number of dramatic cliff top walks. Keep to the path and take care – the path in close to the cliff edge in many places.

Footwear

Always wear boots or heavy walking shoes – paths may be muddy

Tides

The section of the Coast Path between New Quay and Llanina passes over the beach at Traethgwyn.  This section is not available at high water – please check tidal conditions in advance.  The road from New Quay to Llanina can be used as an alternative, but care must be taken (the first section of road can be busy and there is no footway).  

Other beaches – at Llan-non and Borth – offer an option to the Coast Path but access is affected by tidal conditions.

Livestock

Many sections of the route cross farm land grazed by cattle or sheep. Please keep your dog under control.
