Spotting Wildlife
The Coast Path offers many opportunities to enjoy Ceredigion’s ‘wild’ coast.
Here are just some suggestions:
Cardigan Island
From Cardigan Island Farm Park you will have good views of Cardigan Island and an opportunity for seal and dolphin watching. A Visitor Centre has recently been added (admission charge to the Farm Park).
Ynys Lochtyn, Llangrannog
Spectacular promontory and an excellent place to look out for bottlenose dolphins, sea birds and the rare chough
Cardigan Bay Lookout, New Quay
Walk along the coast from New Quay to reach the Lookout, overlooking Birds Rock. From this former Coastguard lookout you can observe dolphins and porpoise as well as grey seals hauled out on the rocks. Birds Rock is the most important sea bird breeding area in Ceredigion.
You can find out more about coastal wildlife and Cardigan Bay SAC at the ‘Boat Place’ in New Quay.
Pendinas and Traeth Tan y Bwlch, Aberystwyth
Local Nature Reserve managed by the County Council. Diverse habitats including meadows, scrub covered slopes and a shingle ridge, dominated by the Iron Age hill-fort of Pendinas.
Ynyslas, Borth
National Nature Reserve on the Dyfi Estuary with trails leading through flower-rich sand dunes. Visitor Centre.
