The coastal bus service – the ‘Cardi Bach’ – is a firm favourite with local residents and visitors alike. In 2011, the Cardi Bach operated between June and September, supported by CCW, Tourism Partnership Mid Wales and town and community councils along the route.

Train

The railway network only serves northern Ceredigion. None-the-less the train remains a popular way to reach the coast by public transport from most inland regions.

Stations at Aberystwyth and Borth serve the Ceredigion Coast Path while the Wales Coast Path in northern Ceredigion can also be accessed from Dyfi Junction.

Bus

Aberystwyth can also be reached by long distance bus from Cardiff (701) and from Shrewsbury - Birmingham - London (409).

Frequent long distance buses run along the main coastal road between Cardigan and Aberystwyth (X50 & 550 via New Quay and Aberporth) and on to Machynlleth (X28 & X32). There are also services operating between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron (X40), Aberaeron - Llangrannog - Aberporth - Cardigan (552), Aberystwyth and Borth (512) and between Cardigan and Pembrockshire (405 & 407). Cardi Bach – Latest News

Over the summer months, the ‘Cardi Bach’ bus has once again provided a link between Cardigan and New Quay and the villages along the Cardigan Bay coastline. This 2011’s summer service came to an end on 9th October. Once again the service, which was introduced in 2004, has proved popular with local residents and visitors alike.

However a new Cardi Bach service will be introduced as soon as possible during 2012, funded through the Rural Development Plan (RDP). The new service will run between Cardigan and New Quay and once initiated will operate all-year round (six days a week over the summer and three days a week at other times).

The absence of the Cardi Bach this winter is regrettable but once the new arrangements are in place it will place the Cardi Bach on a much more secure financial footing as well as offering an enhanced service.  In addition to RDP grant, funding for the Cardi Bach has been made available by the Countryside Council for Wales and Tracc.
